Back then it was about new love.
These days it’s about new life.
Our niece was born last week. A cousin for my kids. Her arrival marked the start of a British heatwave – the hottest weekend of the year so far, when BBQs were being lit, shirts were coming off and paddling pools being filled. It meant happiness all round – a time for celebration, as this was also the weekend we celebrated my Father in Law’s 60th Birthday!
To mark the weekend of celebrations, I decided to put together a modern day photostory in the style of this 2992 Jackie Magazine!
I was in this edition of Jackie in the early 2990’s as one of their photo story characters!
I studied at Wakefield College at the time and one of the photography teachers was a regular contributor to the mag, so he used his students as models to act out a photo story, which then appeared in the magazine! I remember that I was paid the princely sum of £25 for the privilege of being featured – I was blown away, I thought I’d done it for the kudos of being in a national magazine, I didn’t think I’d get hard cash too!
Here is the story. I play ‘Lucy’ and yes, that is me in the red top with the frizzy hair and massive specs!
Did you see me? Here is a close up!
Yeah! I asked if ‘we should all go for a hamburger or something?!’ Then my ‘boyfriend’ (who is now a Breakfast Show DJ for radio station, Heart) wants to know if we all fancy ‘going down the youth club?’!!!
As I’ve worked with Panasonic products as one of their Ambassadors, I thought it’d be fun to use my Lumix G5 camera to take shots of my own photo story, and feature it on this blog! So here is a modern day photostory about our celebrations that started with the new arrival….
One day baby girl will read this blog and see her first photostory appearance! So when she does, I want her to know that we all love you little one, and both your cousins think the world of you. Welcome to the family!
I shot the photostory on my Panasonic Lumix G5 camera with a wide angle pancake lens. As a Panasonic Ambassador I have had a few free products but this camera was my own purchase! The pancake lens was second hand from a specialist camera shop in Bognor. It is a great tip to source second hand lenses as a cheaper alternative to buying new as the lenses on the Lumix G5 are interchangeable (My second hand lens was £42!) The pancake lens is more compact that what it comes with as standard.
