There are many of us out there making it work, working from home and many more who have kids and are looking for a way to work more flexibly. When you have a family and need to earn, you engage in the work home juggle whether you like it or not!
I always worked in corporate roles before having my kids but once my son was here I wanted to find something I could do from home, and when the new tax year starts in about a week, it will be the 20th continuous year that I’ve been self employed. A whole decade of working for myself

A few weeks ago I recorded a video diary of a training day I attended. I wanted to partly document the excitement of getting a ‘day out’ when you are a work at home mother – trust me, most of my work days are spent alone, at my desk replying to emails so an actual day where I go out to a hotel conference room and wear make up is cause for celebration! But I also wanted to show the juggle that us work from home parents face when running a business. The business has to be run around the kids; it has to fit in with their schedule, and my husband’s schedule which means that my diary needs to be flexible and I have to be adaptable to roll with whatever the day brings. That is a skill-set in itself!
Another parent doing the work home juggle is new dad and founder of website Free Postcode Lottery, Chris Holbrook. I interviewed him recently to find out about his unique business (which I’ve been playing daily ever since btw!) and how he plans to manage the life /work balance as a stay at home dad.
